Professor of Interventional Radiology, Ain Shams University

Prof. Sameh Mohamed Abdel Wahab is a distinguished Professor of Interventional Radiology at Ain Shams University, and a leading figure in the field of Interventional Radiology (IR) in Egypt and the Middle East.

Currently, he serves as the President of the “Egyptian Society of Interventional Radiology” (EgSIR), which he helped establish in 2016 to advance IR education, research, and clinical practice in Egypt.

Prof. Abdel Wahab previously held the position of Head of the Interventional Radiology Unit at Ain Shams University (2015–2024), which became one of the busiest and rather advanced IR centers in the Middle East, offering 24/7 interventional services.

Since 2017, Prof. Abdel Wahab has been an integral part of the Pan Arab Interventional Radiology Society annual meetings, where he actively contributes as a lecturer, tumor board moderator, and workshop leader. His expertise lies particularly in Interventional Oncology, with a special focus on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver transplant-related IR procedures.

Notably, he is a founding member of the Ain Shams Hepatoma Group, established in 2002, which is recognized as the oldest multidisciplinary HCC treatment team in the Middle East. His contributions to advancing liver cancer treatment and transplant-related IR interventions have been pivotal in shaping the field.

Mervat Gamal Eldin Mansour is a professor of pediatrics and pediatric critical care in the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University. She graduated with honors, in December 1997. at Ain Shams University, in November 2006, she obtained her Medical Doctorate Degree (M.D) in the field of pediatric critical care. Dr. Mervat Gamal believes in incorporating pediatric critical care management techniques, into the multidisciplinary medical approaches in pediatrics in hopes of delivering comprehensive care that addresses as many pediatric patients’ needs as possible. In addition, she is very passionate about the idea of training junior pediatricians, as she sees that it is one of the most crucial parts of being able to assemble a future team of competent and effective pediatricians in the post-operative care domain of pediatrics in Egypt.

Dr. Mervat Gamal is a leading professor in the post-operative pediatric critical care field, since 2010. Subsequently, in 2013, she joined the Wadi El Nile liver transplantation team, where she started learning and practicing post- liver transplant pediatric critical care. She worked alongside renowned surgeons in Egypt, such as Dr. Mahmoud El Metiny and Dr. Amr Abdelaal at Ain Shams University, surgeons in France, such as Dr. Olivier Boillot at Hospices Civils de Lyon, and surgeons in England, such as Dr. Magdy Attia at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Moreover, during 3 years at the Air Force Specialized Hospital, in addition to her work at Wadi El Nile hospital, since 2013, she was able to develop her knowledge and medical applications to ultimately work on combined liver and kidney cases, re-transplantation cases and acute fulminant liver cell failure cases, as well as supporting a multitude of transplanted children in need of critical care management, at any instance during their life course.

Since 2019, she started a program which tackles post-operative cardiac critical care, where she leads the post-cardiac pediatric intensive care unit in the Heart and Thoracic surgery Academy of Ain Shams University.

Dr. Mervat Gamal has published around 20 scientific research papers that discuss hemodynamic and ventilatory management of pediatric critical care patients under different circumstances, while trying to merge both updated, developing management techniques and Egypt’s available resources.

Dr. Nehal Radwan graduated from Ain Shams University in 2000 (Excellent with honor), then receiving her Master degree in Pathology (2005) followed by Doctorate degree (2009) and currently posted as a Pathology professor since 2021. She is a member of Liver Transplantation team at Ain Shams Center of Organ Transplantation (ASCOT) at Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital since 2009 till now. She has a special interest in adult and pediatric Liver Pathology with more than 20 years’ experience in this field. She is a member of the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) and the Egyptian Liver Transplant society (ELTS). Dr. Nehal participated in many liver pathology training workshops and courses (e.g Hepato-pathology Course; Institute of Gastro & Hepato Pathology (IGHP), India, 2023). She is a reviewer in many national & international scientific medical journals and has several international publications in the field of liver Pathology.

Dr. Dina Abdellatif is a Consultant in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Cairo University Hospital, where she is a member of the transplantation team. In addition to her role at Cairo University.

Dr. Abdellatif is actively engaged in global nephrology initiatives and holds leadership positions in multiple international organizations. She is the President-Elect and Secretary General of the International Federation of Kidney Foundations – World Kidney Alliance (IFKF-WKA) and President-Elect of the Mediterranean Kidney Society (MKS). She also co-chairs the World Kidney Day Steering Committee, advocating for kidney health awareness and public education.

Additionally, she is a member of the ISN CME Committee and the ERA Kidney Relief Disaster Task Force, and she chairs the ESNT/National Kidney Foundation Advocacy and Disaster Working Group.

A dedicated advocate for kidney health, Dr. Abdellatif has been a World Kidney Day Champion for many years and plays a vital role in nephrology awareness and advocacy. She is also a member of the WHO Regional Expert Network for Chronic Kidney Diseases in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Dr. Abdellatif completed an ISN Fellowship in 2011 at the Sheffield Kidney Institute, UK.

Her areas of expertise and research focus include peritoneal dialysis, kidney transplantation, and kidney advocacy, in addition to general nephrology and hemodialysis.

Ahmed Elsabbagh, MD, MS, MRCS, PhD is an Associate Professor, Liver transplant and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgeon at Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Transplantation Center, Mansoura University, Egypt, one of the top centers in Living Donor Liver Transplantation. Formerly, he served as an Associate Professor, Multi-Organ Transplant and HPB surgeon at St. Vincent hospital, Indianapolis, USA. He is an active member in many international transplant societies, the vice president of the Egyptian Liver Transplant Society, a member of Living Donation Committee in American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and a member of Royal College of Surgeons of England. He served in International Pediatric Transplant Association (IPTA) Education Committee. He was recently nominated for The Transplantation Society (TTS) Councilor at Large for Middle East/Africa.

He has extensive experience in the field of Transplantation. He gained experience in USA at Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Henry Ford Hospital and, Georgetown University Transplant Institute where he finished American Society of transplant Surgeons (ASTS) accredited 2-year Multi-organ Transplant/HPB Surgery Fellowship. Dr. Elsabbagh is a strong professional who has received nationally and internationally recognized awards in the field of Transplantation. He authored articles in professional journals and presented his work at many meetings and conferences. He has special interest in ERAS pathways in solid organ transplant, microbiome, pediatric and living donor liver transplant and medical education. His vision includes outreach to developing countries in Africa and middle east to improve the outcome and access to liver transplantation. Dr. Elsabbagh has been involved in many transplant-related educational activities in North America and Middle East.

Dr. Ahmed Marwan   joined the digestive disease institute (DDI) transplant institute -Cleveland Clinic main campus in 2014, after which he earned his doctorate degree and he joined  DDI and transplant  institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi UAE as a Clinical Assistant Professor of internal medicine in 2018 and served in as a gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist while the program was being launched.

Dr. Marwan participated in many international and national transplant meetings and received many international awards. Dr. Marwan is an active member of many international transplant , GI & liver societies. His main professional interests in posttransplant NAFLD and immunosuppression minimization and graft survival.

Dr. Marwan  received his medical degree from Mansoura university and he is currently serving as an Associate professor and attending staff  physician in gastroenterology and hepatology unit and liver transplant team, Mansoura college of medicine ,Mansoura university

SAID Khamis is a Professor of Medicine & Nephrology at Menoufia University Hospitals, Egypt. He is board member of the Egyptian Society of Nephrology & Transplantation (ESNT), and he is a member of the International Society of Nephrology. (ISN), European Society of Transplant Coordinator Organization (ESTCO), Arab Society of Nephrology & Transplantation (ASNRT), ERA-EDTA, and Saudi Society of Nephrology (SSN). He has published more than 50 articles in national and international medical journals. He received his MD in Medicine & Nephrology from KUL Belgium.

Dr. Ahmed Taha is a currently an Assistant Professor of HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Assiut University. He has team-led the Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) program at Elrajhy Liver Hospital since its inception in 2014. It is a division of Assiut University Hospital and remains the sole tertiary HPB and LDLT facility serving Upper Egypt. Dr. Taha has a wide research experience is in the field of HPB surgery, with a particular focus on technical refinements within LDLT.

Rabea Ahmed Gadelkareem, MD Urology; He joined the Faculty of Medicine at Assiut University in 1996 and graduated in October 2002. He spent his residency period in the Department of Urology from March 2004 to March 2008. Then, he finished the Master degree in urology in 2008 and MD in urology (kidney transplantation) in 2014. He has an essential role and participated in establishing and maintaining the Assiut Kidney Transplantation Program through the last 15 years. Currently, he is Assistant Professor of Urology and a member of the Assiut Kidney Transplant Team at Assiut University Urology Hospital (Urology Department), Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, Egypt. Dr. Rabea is an editorial board member and/or reviewer in many international medical journals. He has more than 70 articles published in reputed medical journals
