Message from President

Ahmed Elsabbagh
MD, PhD, MRCS, MS
Dear Colleagues,
It is an honor to serve as the President of Donate Life Egypt (DLE), an initiative dedicated to transforming the landscape of organ donation and transplantation in Egypt. In alignment with the Egyptian state’s commitment to enhancing healthcare, DLE is working to establish a structured, ethical, and sustainable transplantation system that meets the highest international scientific and regulatory standards.
This initiative marks a transformative moment in our nation’s journey toward strengthening the organ donation and transplantation system. As part of this effort, DLE is establishing chapters in all Egyptian universities and several major hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health. These chapters will serve as hubs for education, advocacy, and collaboration, ensuring that organ donation becomes a well-integrated and widely supported component of our healthcare system.
Prominent national and international figures in the field of organ transplantation have united behind this initiative, working collectively to drive it forward with steady, determined steps. Through collaboration and commitment, we aim to achieve the following core missions:
• Support the Egyptian state’s efforts to enhance organ donation and transplantation while maintaining the highest international regulatory and scientific standards.
• Assist in the development of organ transplantation programs across Africa and the Middle East, sharing knowledge and expertise to improve regional healthcare systems.
• Organize educational events and training programs to advance the field of organ donation and transplantation and equip professionals with the latest knowledge and best practices.
• Raise awareness and promote a culture of giving, while correcting misconceptions and false beliefs surrounding organ donation.
• Encourage proactive health measures to reduce the risk of organ failure and enhance overall public health.
Our awareness campaign will be implemented in three key phases:
1. Phase One: Targeting medical colleges—including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Sciences, and Physical Therapy—as well as major hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health.
2. Phase Two: Expanding outreach to non-medical colleges across universities to engage a broader audience.
3. Phase Three: Extending efforts to the entire Egyptian society, ensuring that awareness and education reach every community.
DLE is committed to fostering excellence, collaboration, advocacy, and integrity in all aspects of organ transplantation. Through strategic initiatives, strong partnerships, and unwavering dedication, we will continue working toward a future where organ donation is widely understood, ethically practiced, and accessible to all in need.
Together, we are Transplanting HOPE—transforming lives, strengthening our healthcare system, and building a sustainable future for organ donation in Egypt. Sincerely,
Ahmed Elsabbagh, MD, PhD, MRCS, MS
