Ahmed Elsabbagh, MD, MS, MRCS, PhD is an Associate Professor, Liver transplant and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgeon at Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Transplantation Center, Mansoura University, Egypt, one of the top centers in Living Donor Liver Transplantation. Formerly, he served as an Associate Professor, Multi-Organ Transplant and HPB surgeon at St. Vincent hospital, Indianapolis, USA. He is an active member in many international transplant societies, the vice president of the Egyptian Liver Transplant Society, a member of Living Donation Committee in American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and a member of Royal College of Surgeons of England. He served in International Pediatric Transplant Association (IPTA) Education Committee. He was recently nominated for The Transplantation Society (TTS) Councilor at Large for Middle East/Africa.

He has extensive experience in the field of Transplantation. He gained experience in USA at Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Henry Ford Hospital and, Georgetown University Transplant Institute where he finished American Society of transplant Surgeons (ASTS) accredited 2-year Multi-organ Transplant/HPB Surgery Fellowship. Dr. Elsabbagh is a strong professional who has received nationally and internationally recognized awards in the field of Transplantation. He authored articles in professional journals and presented his work at many meetings and conferences. He has special interest in ERAS pathways in solid organ transplant, microbiome, pediatric and living donor liver transplant and medical education. His vision includes outreach to developing countries in Africa and middle east to improve the outcome and access to liver transplantation. Dr. Elsabbagh has been involved in many transplant-related educational activities in North America and Middle East.

Hany Abd Elbaset, MD

Biography

Dr. Hany Said Abdelbaset, a renowned HPB and living donor liver transplant surgeon, is a key
figure in the establishment of several pioneering liver transplant centers across Egypt. He
is one of the founders of the Ain Shams Center for Organ Transplantation (ASCOT) in 2007,
a center of excellence, as well as the founder of living donor liver transplant programs at
Assuit University (2013) and Alexandria University (2015). Since 2018, Dr. Hany has been the
Director of the LDLT program at Cairo Fatemic Hospital, a Ministry of Health facility.
He participated and performed more than 1750 cases of LDLT including rare and complicat-
ed cases of domino liver transplantation, combined liver-kidney transplants, and retrans-
plantations, he is a leader in his field. Dr. Hany has also contributed to 32 national and inter-
national scientific publications in liver transplantation.

Mervat Gamal Eldin Mansour is a professor of pediatrics and pediatric critical care in the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University. She graduated with honors, in December 1997. at Ain Shams University, in November 2006, she obtained her Medical Doctorate Degree (M.D) in the field of pediatric critical care. Dr. Mervat Gamal believes in incorporating pediatric critical care management techniques, into the multidisciplinary medical approaches in pediatrics in hopes of delivering comprehensive care that addresses as many pediatric patients’ needs as possible. In addition, she is very passionate about the idea of training junior pediatricians, as she sees that it is one of the most crucial parts of being able to assemble a future team of competent and effective pediatricians in the post-operative care domain of pediatrics in Egypt.

Dr. Mervat Gamal is a leading professor in the post-operative pediatric critical care field, since 2010. Subsequently, in 2013, she joined the Wadi El Nile liver transplantation team, where she started learning and practicing post- liver transplant pediatric critical care. She worked alongside renowned surgeons in Egypt, such as Dr. Mahmoud El Metiny and Dr. Amr Abdelaal at Ain Shams University, surgeons in France, such as Dr. Olivier Boillot at Hospices Civils de Lyon, and surgeons in England, such as Dr. Magdy Attia at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Moreover, during 3 years at the Air Force Specialized Hospital, in addition to her work at Wadi El Nile hospital, since 2013, she was able to develop her knowledge and medical applications to ultimately work on combined liver and kidney cases, re-transplantation cases and acute fulminant liver cell failure cases, as well as supporting a multitude of transplanted children in need of critical care management, at any instance during their life course.

Since 2019, she started a program which tackles post-operative cardiac critical care, where she leads the post-cardiac pediatric intensive care unit in the Heart and Thoracic surgery Academy of Ain Shams University.

Dr. Mervat Gamal has published around 20 scientific research papers that discuss hemodynamic and ventilatory management of pediatric critical care patients under different circumstances, while trying to merge both updated, developing management techniques and Egypt’s available resources.

Dr. Nehal Radwan graduated from Ain Shams University in 2000 (Excellent with honor), then receiving her Master degree in Pathology (2005) followed by Doctorate degree (2009) and currently posted as a Pathology professor since 2021. She is a member of Liver Transplantation team at Ain Shams Center of Organ Transplantation (ASCOT) at Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital since 2009 till now. She has a special interest in adult and pediatric Liver Pathology with more than 20 years’ experience in this field. She is a member of the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) and the Egyptian Liver Transplant society (ELTS). Dina Abdellatif, MD

Dr. Dina Abdellatif is a Consultant in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Cairo University Hospital, where she is a member of the transplantation team. In addition to her role at Cairo University.

Dr. Abdellatif is actively engaged in global nephrology initiatives and holds leadership positions in multiple international organizations. She is the President-Elect and Secretary General of the International Federation of Kidney Foundations – World Kidney Alliance (IFKF-WKA) and President-Elect of the Mediterranean Kidney Society (MKS). She also co-chairs the World Kidney Day Steering Committee, advocating for kidney health awareness and public education.

Additionally, she is a member of the ISN CME Committee and the ERA Kidney Relief Disaster Task Force, and she chairs the ESNT/National Kidney Foundation Advocacy and Disaster Working Group.

A dedicated advocate for kidney health, Dr. Abdellatif has been a World Kidney Day Champion for many years and plays a vital role in nephrology awareness and advocacy. She is also a member of the WHO Regional Expert Network for Chronic Kidney Diseases in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Prof Ahmed Elgendi is a Professor of Hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at
the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria university in Egypt. He is currently the
Head of HPB surgery unit at the department of Surgery in Alexandria
University. Prof Elgendi received his medical education in Alexandria
Egypt , and continued his post graduate study and PhD at Imperial college
in London under supervision of prof Nagy Habib. He had special interest
in Radio-frequency assisted hepatic resection and combined radio
frequency ablation with surgical resections. Prof Elgendi is one of the main
founder of Living Donor Liver transplant program at ALmowasat University
Hospital in Alexandria. This transplant program is serving a community of
nearly 6 million people at three districts in Egypt. Prof Elgendi has a
special interest in the field of liver cancer and transplantation. He has
many international publications in this field including one the first of
randomized controlled sturdies of open versus laparoscopic hepatectomy
for HCC. He serves as a staff and faculty member at Alexandria university
were he teaches undergraduate students and is responsible for the
postgraduate education hepatobiliary training at the Alexandria university.
Prof Elgendi contributed in many national campaigns in Egypt addressing
the screening and early detection of HCC as one the national health
problems. He is also aN active member in the “Donate life Egypt”
campaign to raise awareness and trying to implement the deceased organ
transplant program in Egypt. Prof Elgendi supervised the training of many
young surgeons in the field of liver surgery in many African countries and
his center in Alexandria is providing medical services and surgeries for
many patients with liver cancer in African countries. Prof Elgendi has a
special interest in minimally invasive liver and pancreas surgery and is
promoting the adoption of minimally invasive liver surgery by conducting
many workshops for training of young surgeons and establishing
